Yao Yan heads delegation to 13th ICCC, wins bid to host 14th ICCC

      On the night of July 7, 2011, the closing dinner of the 13th International Congress of Cement Chemistry (ICCC) was staged at the Castillo Castle in Madrid. As Chairman Angel Palomo announced, “The winner of the 14th International Congress of Cement Chemistry in 2015 goes to the city of Beijing!” the venue boiled. Yao Yan, vice chairman of Chinese Ceramic Society (CCS) and president of China Building Materials Academy (CBMA), on behalf of the Chinese bid delegation, received the host certificate for the next ICCC from Palomo, accepting the great trust of the world. The delegation jumped with joy, international friends extended congratulations, the decades’ dream of generations of Chinese cement scientists came true at the very moment.

      The Chinese bid delegation was jointly organized by CCS and CBMA, and headed by President Yao Yan and Deputy Secretary-General Tan Fu. Nearly 40 scholars from a dozen domestic institutions of higher education and research institutes participated in the bid and attended the congress, including Wuhan University of Technology, South China University of Technology, Hunan University, The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, China University of Mining and Technology, Nanjing University of Technology, Southeast University, Jinan University, Tsinghua University and China Academy of Railway Sciences.

     ICCC is an international academic gathering with the longest history, highest academic level and greatest number of participating countries and attendees in the global cement science and technology field, which is reputed as the “Olympics” in international cement academia. Since the 1st ICCC was held in London in 1918, 13 editions have been staged. The congress’s authority and influence has been well recognized by colleagues in the world. Recent editions have seen nearly 1,000 attending experts, scholars and engineering technicians. The 13th ICCC was held in Madrid from July 3 to 8, 2011. Some 900 delegates from 68 countries attended the congress, exchanging 434 reports and theses.
